Defining the Patio Heater

As the name is blatantly suggesting, patio heaters are those heaters created for small space heating like porches or patios. These products come in two primary designs. One is designed to be a mount type heater while the other is a dome type. They are powered with electrical heating or by propane. The dome shaped heaters are the most commonly used especially for open spaces. The design consists of a pole with a metal cage in the shape of a dome on the top.

Almost all of them are powered by propane based heating. The heaters have their own dials for control of the temperature, automatic shutdown as safety mechanism that can prevent flaring of the burners that are fitted inside.


How does an outdoor heater work?
In a pole shaped patio heater, a propane gas cylinder is connected through a regulator mechanism. Just under the dome mechanism at the top is where the heaters are and the gas from the pole will flow into that when the regulator valve is turned on. Because of the electric ignition, the burners will start to heat up and then radiate heat due to the radiant heating element that is inside. The heater will then expel heat to all directions when the temperature in the heater rises up. The heat will be distributed more horizontally and less heat is lost vertically due to the dome shape of the patio heater.


This crafted mechanism makes sure that the most of the heat will be directed more into a circular motion around the heater itself. The intensity of the heat depends also to the wattage of the heater. Those elements that are heated in the unit starts off to give infrared waves that will be absorbed by the human body and gives heat. Through the installations of the multiple patio heaters, a big outdoor space can be kept warm easily. Those propane based heaters that are mounted on walls works on the same principle and will then radiate in from of the unit.


So, when using a radiant heating system on the patio with a dome heater, the heat is distributed uniformly. They make good choice for installations to keep spaces warm during fall and winter times. With the fact that the units are using propane gas to function makes them very efficient appliances. Plus, these items are sold at reasonable prices and the fact that they are portable makes it a good bargain. I cannot see any reason why it should not be installed in your home!
