Planning Aims Is Not Worthwhile - Is It?
To cut straight to the point you can't achieve a goal that doesn't exist-how would you know you are there without knowing where there is. And even more important how would you know whether whatever you're doing is helping you achieve that goal or detrimental to your nonexistent objective. You can't because you don't have a compass. So believe me when I say that setting Objectives is not only the first but also the most important step to success.
An objective is like a rally point, in fact a goal is a rally point, that helps you gauge your progress on the way to success. This is necessary for you to see if your efforts are paying off or if you need to step up a notch. To summarize, with the help of an objective you will be able to evaluate if you have to kick up a gear or if you are right on track with your diet.
Are you convinced now that all this goal setting business is not wasted time and effort and will actually help you achieve a more successful diet? Yes? Good, now let's see how to set these Objectives. You want to set Objectives that are not trivial to achieve but also not impossible. If you don't strife for any worthwhile objective you will end up stopping to strife for that goal alltogether, since really, what's the use in losing 2 lbs in one year? This is not a worthy objective of a successful dieter. If you want to know what goal is reasonable, make sure to look around in your circle of friends and acquaintances. Make very sure NOT to look at the news and especially not and advertisements for diets as they are overhyped.
Important goal setting rule number did anyone count? Be specific with the numbers. For example, don't set your Objectives too far in the future. Set them up for now. Next month. Or the next two weeks. Use numbers that fit in this time frameframe. Now when you managed to achieve your first short termer you can set yourself directly up for another and another aaand another. There is no reason to believe that you can't lose just ten pounds. And once you have done that, there is no reason to believe you can't do it again. This is a very awesome and secret Jedi Mind trick and now it's not even secret any more. Just chain up some small Goals to get to one big end goal. So don't go for the big end objective directly. It's so far away you can't see the flagpole nor can you see what it does to your life once you reach it.
What should you do in case you miss a goal? Most important: Don't stop! No, you just have to take a step back and see where you have to make a change so that you don't miss the next goal. This can happen either by working harder or by lowering the goal.
And before I forget: The goals you are setting have to be YOUR Objectives and not Goals imposed on you by someone else. Only Objectives you set for yourself and Goals you really WANT to come true are the objectives you likely succeed in achieving. Don't go for Objectives you are not really interested in achieving. You are just wasting your time, energy and happiness.
What helps a lot of individuals in sticking to their Objectives is to reward themselves for every landmark. In the dieting case, avoid food as reward! Use something that you look forward to that you can't or don't allow yourself to regularly buy or do. Like a pedicure. Or a massage. Thus you discovered how to plan a diet routine and achieve your Goals.
